Discover the joy of salsa dancing with James, our experienced instructor with 15 years of teaching Cuban Salsa! No matter your dance background, James understands the nerves of beginners, having started his salsa journey in his 40s.
Join our salsa dance course where you'll master the fundamental footwork and rhythms of Cuban Salsa. From dancing in hold to transitioning to the open position ("Casino"), you'll learn inside and outside turns as a lead or a follow. It's not just about learning moves; we'll guide you on effective leading and following for a seamless social dance experience.
Our classes are conducted in "La Rueda," (The Wheel) creating a friendly and inclusive environment for everyone to learn and make new friends. The atmosphere is relaxed and low-pressure, with plenty of breaks for you to enjoy the learning process. Cap off each session by practicing to music in a social setting, reinforcing what you've learned.
By the end of the four weeks, you'll feel confident stepping onto the dance floor. Embrace the rhythm, meet like-minded individuals, and embark on a journey of fun and connection through salsa dancing!
Course cost, dates and booking to lead or follow:
Course cost:
- £36 full price per person
- £28 for Falmouth and Exeter students per person
Course dates:
This beginners course takes place from 18:30 - 21:00 on the following dates:
- Thursday 5th February
- Thursday 19th February
- Thursday 5th March
- Thursday 19th February
Booking to lead or follow:
Please specify whether you would prefer to lead, follow or if you are happy to do either.
In Cuban salsa, the lead is responsible for initiating and signalling moves, while the follow is responsible for responding, executing, and adding their own style. The lead provides the structure and direction, and the follow maintains their own balance and momentum to complete the moves, making it a dynamic partnership rather than a rigid hierarchy
If you have attended a few classes previously but haven’t danced for a while, we recommend that you attend the beginners’ sessions.
