My experience of applying for an online degree through Clearing
15 June 2026
Ella, a Visual Communication BA(Hons) (Online) student, shares her experience of applying through Clearing. She explains more about the process, the time it took and why it was the best choice for her.
"Hi all, my name is Ella and I'm an online Visual Communication student who applied to Falmouth University through Clearing. I would say that one of my favourite things about studying online is the flexibility. Within my first two years, I've managed to do a lot of travelling, visit some beautiful places and find new artistic inspiration, all while my degree has followed along with me.
In a way, that's actually kind of where my story of applying through Clearing began. When I chose to apply, I was actually abroad. I'd spent the majority of my A-levels deciding and un-deciding what I wanted to do, and I continued applying to universities for courses I was never really sure about. Eventually, results day had passed. I'd seen the online degrees before, but it was at the time when I was struggling to make a choice when I came across them again: I knew that was what I wanted to do.
Two weeks after results day, I started my application through Clearing and the adventure began. The process was really easy and the Course Advisors were there for any information I needed. The whole process took place through Falmouth University directly, where the admissions team reviewed each element of my application and fed back any further information they needed.
I felt really supported and welcomed and everything was really easy to navigate. After two weeks, I was then offered a place. I was immediately pulled into the preparation for my studies. The Student Advisor team was in constant contact and available for any queries or questions I had. All the welcome information was then sent to me promptly, including information about tuition payments, how to enrol, support services and accessibility.
When I was applying, I found there were a lot of unknowns around an online degree. When I first started, I was worried I'd be quite alone. I've now met so many wonderful people, tutors and fellow students. We have weekly webinars and online studios that keep us connected at all times, so forget about disconnection from an online degree.
Being able to apply through Clearing allowed me the time to choose the right path. I hope this helps and thank you for listening."
