Simon Andrews

Course Leader, Sustainable Product Design

Simon Andrews is course leader on the Sustainable Product Design programme at Falmouth University and an AHRC studentship PhD researcher. His research practice focuses on the relationship between design and health and wellbeing, in particular the opportunities to empower people through inclusive design. He recently collaborated with local charity, Cornwall Mobility, to design a beach wheelchair to make access to the Cornish coast more inclusive. Through his PhD research project, he is currently working with people at risk of falls to design clothes and accessories that provide protection from hip fractures.

Showcasing work of BIAD BA (Hons) Textile Design students in collaboration with national furniture, flooring and wall covering companies.

    2012

    Birmingham Made Me Design Expo - Exhibition designer and project coordinator.

    I was tasked with the job of converting seven (out of nine) empty retail spaces into exhibition zones, for the inaugural show. I developed the designs liaising with the IDEA Birmingham team, zone curators and exhibition contractors. All the exhibitors were based in the Midlands and included JC Decaux, JCB, Dunlop, Jaguar, Triumph, Pashley Cycles, Brooks Sadles, Vax, AGA, and Emma Bridgewater. The Birmingham Made Me Design Expo was an initiative developed by thinktank, IDEA Birmingham whose founder chairman was Jaguar’s Design Director, Ian Callum.
