We're delighted to announce that we became a signatory to the Technician Commitment at a ceremony at the Tower of London last week.

The Technician Commitment is a sector-wide collaborative project that raises visibility and recognition of technical staff while supporting their career development and ensuring future sustainability of technical skills and expertise.

Launched in 2017, the initiative is intended to transform how Universities support their technical staff. 75 institutions are now signed up to the Commitment, representing more than 50% of UK universities and a number of world-class research institutions. It is led by a steering board of sector bodies including The Gatsby Charitable Foundation, Wellcome Trust, Advance HE and UKRI.

Andy Harbert, Technical & Facilities Manager said: "This is important formal recognition of the huge contribution that our technical staff make to the experience of studying at Falmouth University and in enabling our teaching and research.

"Annually, the NSS shows that our students value our technical staff's contribution to their experience, and this is a vital step in ensuring that our colleagues are supported in maintaining that positive student experience."

Charles Marson, Head of Employee Relations & HR Business Partnering, added, "Our technicians are highly skilled colleagues with a diverse range of expertise and experience that played a key part in Falmouth achieving TEF Gold.

"We're delighted to be a signatory to the Technician Commitment and to develop a meaningful action plan that demonstrates Falmouth's commitment to our staff and which improves and supports vital technical skills through increased visibility, recognition, career development and sustainability for our technical teams."

Over the next 12 months the University, led by Andy Harbert and Charles Marson, will be working in partnership with colleagues and students from across the University to develop the action plan.
