In collaboration with Kyra Norman and Deep Time Moving, Voices on the Edge are happy to present “All ears: listening as an embodied act”, a workshop with Kyra Norman.

  • In this practical, experimental workshop, dance-trained artist and choreographer Kyra Norman will share some approaches to listening as a physical, active, felt experience.
  • Working with recorded music and sound, our voices, and the sounds around us, we will cultivate practices of attention and being present with what we hear. Moving in order to listen, listening in order to move.
  • Kyra will guide us through a series of individual, partner and small group tasks that invite a deeper attention to our human experience and to the world around us. We will tune in to sounds near and far, to our individual intuition and impulse to move, to one another, and to the space we share together.
  • This workshop draws on the practices of Deep Listening developed by Pauline Oliveros, click here for further information, as well as Kyra’s ongoing experience of varied somatic movement practices, previous adventures in contemporary dance and on a variety of social dance floors, and current choreographic works Deep Time Moving (a live movement performance that responds to the unique geological moves of the Lizard peninsula in Cornwall, where Kyra lives) and Going, Going (a live music and dance collaboration with composer Barnaby Taylor).

Tickets and further information:

  • Tickets are free, but booking is required.
  • This workshop has limited capacity.
  • This is an open, inclusive and adaptable session for all bodies: absolutely no formal movement/ dance experience required – it won’t look much like a ‘dance class’ either – that said, we will be moving, lying down/ otherwise resting, and probably having a bop around at some point, so wear clothes that you find comfortable for such things.
