The Festival takes place in Newquay's Lighthouse Cinema from 4 to 6 November 2011. Press and editorial photography is a highly competitive business and this degree course is designed to mirror the fast-paced world in which you'll find yourself after graduation. This course will give you the skills, confidence and imagination to stand out from the crowd, allowing you to expand your creative vision while learning the intricacies of the trade - from transmitting images via our electronic picture desk to editing pictures for publication.

Our series of workshops and problem-solving situations will teach you advanced crafts in image-making and how to communicate through images across a broad spectrum of print media publications. You'll need more than just the ability to take a good picture to succeed, so we'll help you develop an eye for opportunity and provide the support, knowledge and technical know-how for you to excel in this challenging environment.
Throughout the course, real and simulated briefs with external professional organisations such as regional, national and international press, publishers, press agencies and picture libraries will place your images for publication in newspapers, magazines and books in the professional market, building your portfolio.

Operating on a basis of continuous assessment with no formal examinations, you'll be measured using a combination of visual, verbal and written assignments. All applicants will be asked to submit a project prior to interview of eight images in hard copy 8 x10 format.
Applicants invited to interview on the strength of project submission. Those invited to interview will have a campus tour followed by an individual interview and portfolio discussion. Portfolio should contain not only photography, but evidence of research and writing skills, eg an essay or report, together with any other artwork, 3D work or evidence of idea development, eg sketchbooks or workbooks.
Interviews will be held on 1 and 8 December 2011, 4, 5, 12 and 26 January, 9, 16 and 23 February, 1 and 8 March 2012.
