The Student counselling service

Counselling is available to all students on both the Tremough and Woodlane campuses between 9:30 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. from Monday to Friday during term time.  A limited service is available during vacations.

The Counselling Service is located:

  • at Woodlane in Accommodation & Welfare on the ground floor of the Kathmor building on the ‘top' side of Woodlane
  • at Tremough in Accommodation & Welfare upstairs in the Annex building opposite the Stannary

Appointments can be made either personally in Accommodation & Welfare Reception areas, or by telephoning 01326 370460 for appointments at Tremough, or 01326 213735 for appointments at Woodlane.

We offer a range of different Counselling 'Shapes'

  • One Hour Sessions - these are bookable sessions, so you need to make an appointment first.  Longer sessions of up to one hour allow you more time to explore issues in a safe, confidential, non-judgemental space
  • 20 Minute Sessions - these are also bookable sessions, so you also need to make an appointment first.  Often a 20 Minute Session is all you need, for example if you're not sure about coming to counselling, if you want to work though a very specific issue or to 'check-in' occasionally after finishing a series of longer Counselling sessions.  20 Minute Sessions are held at the Tremough campus, but are available to all students, no matter where you are based
  • Drop In - this service is usually available for the first or last hour of each day (currently 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. or 3:45 to 4:45 p.m.), and sometimes even more flexibly.  Ask at Receptions for details.  Come to Drop In if you want to see a Counsellor briefly, for example to 'put something down' that's taking up all of your energy.  No appointment is necessary for Drop In, though you may be asked to come back for the following day's Drop In if the session is busy.

There are both female and male Counsellors on both campuses, and you can choose which you would prefer to see.  Note, however, that only one Counsellor is available at each campus on some days, so you may have to wait for a later session if you have a strong preference to see a Counsellor of a particular gender.
