Earlier this spring, a group of Graphic Design BA and Communication Design MA students visited London for an annual study trip, focusing on getting a real flavour for working in the industry.

A group of 60 students and staff visited some of the most inspirational, forward-thinking studios in the UK; to better understand the work, process and culture that makes each studio so unique.

Students visited multiple studios each across three days, and were greeted by the company’s senior partners and creative directors – some of whom were Falmouth alumni.

Those students who visited design studio Pentagram were also lucky enough to have one of their award-winning partners, Marina Willer, giving an insight into the practice. Students who visited branding and design agency, Johnson Banks, also received a talk from founder Michael Johnson, who spoke with the students about the realities of working in the industry.

Overall, the diversity and variety of studios visited allowed those attending to really think through design specialisms and ambitions as they move towards graduation, and get an idea of what careers lie before them.

A huge thank you to all the studios that generously donated their time and expertise:
