Fine Art students made their first visit to Source FM in preparation for their take-over of an episode of the experimental radio show ‘Damped Waves’ in April 2020. The podcast of the show will then be available on Source (96.1) FM and on Falmouth’s developing radio platform.

The visit to the Source FM headquarters gave students the opportunity to develop their initial ideas for the show. They will now be part of a team responsible for bringing together all the ideas into a 2 hour radio show.

Fine Art Lecturer Bronwen Buckeridge is organising the collaboration with Source FM, she tells us, "After the visit to Source FM HQ, students will receive two workshop sessions with a member of Falmouth Fine Art staff and the Source FM team to help them realise their ideas, as well as technical support and an induction into the use of the Source FM studios.

It’s a great opportunity for students to explore sound as part of their practice and engage with a live audience outside of the university."

Jerry Padfield, Source FM added, "Source FM is currently going through a period of striving to broaden and improve its broadcast output and this collaboration represents a chance to do this, establish ties with Falmouth University's Fine Art department and encourage the art students to consider audio as a medium in which to work."

Source FM is a community radio station based in Falmouth. The station was founded in 2009 and has won a number of awards, most recently in the ‘live event or outside broadcast category’ at the 2019 Community Radio Awards.
