Falmouth University appoints new Chair

Helen Owers has been appointed as the next Chair of Falmouth University’s Board of Governors and will be taking up the role on 1 April 2024.

Commenting on her appointment, Helen said, “It is a privilege to be taking up this position at an institution I greatly admire. Falmouth University is pushing the boundaries of creativity and expanding its application in exciting ways, fusing creativity with the potential of new technology. It’s delivering research excellence and a great student experience, and it has an important role to play in Cornwall as an anchor institution that is driving regional growth. I am greatly looking forward to leading the Board through its next chapter as we work together to ensure the University continues to thrive.”

Helen lives in Cornwall and has served on Falmouth University’s Board since 2019 as an Independent Member. She has extensive senior executive experience in the media and creative industries. She was President of Global Businesses and Chief Development Officer at Thomson Reuters where she globalised the business and built positions in China, Japan, India, Brazil and UAE. Prior to Thomson Reuters, Helen worked as a media and telecoms strategy consultant at Gemini Consulting and led the European educational and professional publishing at Prentice Hall/Pearson. She has extensive experience in non-executive roles, recently as Chair of Eden Project International, as well as FTSE 100 and FTSE 250 businesses.
