The following information is intended for applicants who have already been invited to an interview, to help them prepare. Please note it may change from year to year.
We invite all applicants who show potential to an interview and you will receive your invite through the Falmouth Applicant Portal
Your interview will take place via telephone, you will then be invited to attend a post offer visit day on campus or at one of our regional locations in Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester and London. Interviews are two-way: they give you the opportunity to show your creative skills and interview us; and they help us to assess further your potential to succeed in your chosen subject.
You can find details of your interview in the Applicant Portal
You can also see a list of alternative dates, locations and interview formats in the Applicant Portal if you're not able to make the one we've allocated to you. If you do need to reschedule we would advise you do this as soon as you can as dates fill up quickly.
We are really looking forward to discussing the course with you and as this is a telephone interview, you only need to ‘bring’ yourself and your enthusiasm. We want to focus on you as a person and do not expect you to share any portfolio work, although if you have any promotional materials you have generated relating to tourism activities you have organised, or been involved with, please feel free to mention them during the discussion and/or share an online URL.
You will be conversing with an academic from the course, who will be very interested in finding out about your motivation for applying to the course, as well as your academic work and relevant life experiences to date. We are definitely not trying to ‘catch you out’ and will aim to hold a relaxed discussion about your application. We will be looking to ascertain whether you are a ‘good fit’ for the course and know that equally you will be looking to confirm whether the course is a ‘good fit’ for you. With this in mind, you may well have questions about the course and we appreciate that this will be an important part of the conversation for you, so we will be happy to respond in order to help you make this important decision.
All successful applicants will be invited to attend a Post Offer Visit Day and whilst not compulsory, we strongly encourage your attendance, particularly if you have not already visited us for an Open Day, as this will give you the opportunity to get a sense of our excellent campus, meet staff & current students and network with other applicants.
We recommend you familiarise yourself with the information on the Sustainable Tourism Management BA(Hons) course page and you may also want to be mindful of any important current news/media stories involving sustainability and tourism.
You should be able to:
Discuss your current studies and how they could map into tourism management
Describe any tourism management experience you've had
Discuss your career aspirations and where you would eventually like to work
Discuss a recent relevant media story or documentary you have seen
Share any questions you have about the course
Enthusiasm for and an interest in the course, sustainability and tourism
A desire to succeed
We will also look at your qualifications, personal statement and the reference on your application.
We aim to make all decisions within five working days of interviews. However, in some cases, we might wait until we have held a batch of interview sessions before we make a decision. All decisions will be made online in your UCAS Track account and we will also email you.
