The following information is intended for applicants who have already been invited to an interview, to help them prepare. Please note it may change from year to year.
We invite all applicants who show potential to an interview. Interviews are two-way: they give you the opportunity to show your creative skills and interview us; and they help us to assess further your potential to succeed in your chosen subject. If you are based outside the UK/EU, and are unable to come to Falmouth, you'll be interviewed online or by telephone.

If, in order to attend an in-person on campus audition and interview, you have any individual requirements due to a long-term health condition, specific learning difficulty or disability, please contact the Accessibility Service as soon as possible:

This will enable us to discuss and put in place any support or adjustments you may require, for example, hearing induction loop, BSL interpreter, adjusted interview time/length, ground floor interview room or information in a different format.

You can also see a list of alternative dates in the Applicant Portal if you're not able to make the one we've allocated to you. If you do need to reschedule we would advise you do this as soon as you can as dates fill up quickly.
You do not need to bring any physical artefacts to the visit. Optionally, supplementary to your application, you may send us material online prior to your visit.
In-person on campus interviews only
We invite up to 24 applicants to visit our game development studio each session.
You'll be shown around our studio space and receive a general introduction to the Games Academy, followed by a more specific introduction to your subject area. You will meet with a personal tutor for an informal discussion about your interest in computing for approximately 15 minutes. While you are waiting, you will complete an exercise. You'll then be able to meet current students and have a tour of the campus.
You can expect to be here for about 3 hours.
Skype/telephone interviews only
You'll have a conversation with a member of the course team for approximately 15 minutes, and we aim to make phone and Skype calls as similar to in-person meetings as possible.
We teach our students from the very foundations of the computing discipline, so you don’t need to have any prior experience of computer programming before joining us. However, if you do have experience that you’d like us to know about, then we’d love to see your work. Don’t bring any materials to the visit. Instead, make materials available to us online. The free video and web hosting services provided by YouTube and GitHub are recommended. As a suggestion, you could provide ONE video of a game or software application that you have worked on alongside ONE source code excerpt from that artefact.
The best candidates will showcase digital game projects that they've pursued beyond the school context to demonstrate their passion and dedication. Avoid showcasing mark-up (e.g., HTML) as tutors are more interested in any programming experience you might have (e.g. Python, Java, C, etc.). We appreciate that many candidates don’t have prior experience, and those that do will likely be self-taught. As such, we do not evaluate the size or quality of your source code. We are instead exploring your interests and what excites you to determine if the course is a good fit.
During the visit to our studio, we’ll ask you to:
- Explain what computing is
- Distinguish computing from digital literacy and ICT
- Describe potential career trajectories of computing professionals
- Confirm your level of comfort with mathematics
- Show your enthusiasm for self-regulated problem solving with enthusiasm
- Exercise your computational thinking skills
- Collaborate with other people to achieve a shared goal
- Communicate your technical knowledge in a clear and concise manner
It’s important that you understand that the visit isn’t a traditional ‘interview’ as such, but an opportunity for us to have an informal discussion in which you can determine whether computing is the ‘right fit’ for you, or whether one of our other courses might be more appropriate for your skills and interests.

- Is the candidate aware of the studio-orientated collaboration required to excel as a professional in the industry? - Evidenced by interview conversation
- Does the candidate demonstrate the motivational qualities needed to develop such skills relevant to making games and/or immersive experiences?
- - Evidenced by interview conversation and personal statement, and OPTIONALLY video/source code
We aim to make all decisions within five working days of interviews. However, in some cases, we might wait until we have held a batch of interview sessions before we make a decision. All decisions will be made online in your UCAS Track account and we will also email you.
