Technical & Facilities Manager
I studied photography and then documentary film making in the late 70's and after working as a photographer for a few years, joined the BBC Film Department at Ealing Studios in 1983 as an Assistant Film Editor. I worked on a wide range of productions both as an assistant and editor but specialised in sound editing and design for TV dramas and feature films. I was heavily involved in the transition from analogue to digital audio editing and was supervising sound editor on "The Object of Beauty', a co production between the BBC and Avenue Films in Hollywood. This was the BBC's first project that married 35mm film technology with digitally edited audio.
I pursued a freelance career for some years working on productions such as Granada's 'Far from the Madding Crowd' and Film 4/20th Century Fox's 'The Full Monty'. In a career that spanned almost 20 years, I received two BAFTA nominations, an MPSE nomination and a nomination from the Royal Television Society.
With changes from a creative-driven to an accountant-driven industry, I left to resurrect my first passion of photography, working in the freelance arena and as a technician at Truro College. In 2007 I took the opportunity to join Falmouth as Marine & Natural History Photography Technician and now manage a dedicated and talented team of 22 technical staff in Europe's largest university photography department.
