Associate Lecturer, Marine & Natural History Photography
Gaynor has an academic career spanning 26 years. Having completed an MA in Psychology and an MSc in Research Methods she held Research Fellowships at Glasgow, Strathclyde and Edinburgh Universities before establishing a freelance research consultancy offering research design, fieldwork, analysis and reportage to clients including University Departments, the NHS Executive, Health Boards, Authorities and Trusts, prominent national charities and local community initiatives.
Following her move to Cornwall in 1999, the freelance consultancy continued and she held a further Research Fellowship at the University of Plymouth before achieving her ambition to turn her life-long passions of SCUBA diving and photography into a career. Having achieved Master Scuba Diver and PADI Staff Instructor status, she became a full-time diving instructor and dive school manager in 2003 and set up her own dive school in Falmouth, emphasising her passion for the UK Marine environment and for underwater photography, in 2005. Having taught hundreds of dive courses and logged thousands of dives in the UK Gaynor has also dived around the world including Australia, Egypt, the Canaries, the Caribbean and the Maldives. Having honed her underwater photography skills under the tutelage of the community of underwater photo-journalists here in Cornwall, Gaynor has been teaching underwater photography since 2001 and has led photography fieldtrips to Egypt every year since.
Having provided dive services to the Marine and Natural History Photography BA course since 2007, Gaynor became an Associate Lecturer teaching underwater photography in 2009 and also acts as Diving Safety Officer.
