Student Lands Role at Trade Summit in Africa
Creative Events Management student Verity Magnay is about to start work at The Great Lakes Trade Summit in Kampala.
Verity, who graduates this summer, will take on an event coordination and destination management role; liaising with the conference centre, local and regional media, Uganda Government protocol for airport arrival and departure, preparing display and conference material, promoting the event to ensure maximum attendance and providing delegate coordination on the day.
Verity said: "I'm really looking forward to working with an international organisation on a high-profile event. I think it will be a fantastic, challenging experience and will give me a great industry insight. I have lots of different event experience but had not considered working as an event organiser for conferences and business meetings so I will see where this takes me. I hope it will raise my profile in both Europe and Africa as a person capable of managing this type of event.
"My time at Falmouth has been the best experience; it has given me the confidence to believe that I can do anything and the skills to achieve those ambitions."
Verity will travel to Uganda on 13 June and start work immediately. The summit takes place from 13 to 15 July.
The Great Lakes Trade Summit is a gathering of politicians, businesses and pro-market advocates from Europe, East Africa, and beyond. The Summit will explore the vast opportunities for greater trade and investment with the region; and make the ethical case for free trade as a means of poverty alleviation, conflict resolution and social justice.
