Graduate Shares Expertise

27 October 2017

Creative Event Management students got a taste of working in the events industry this week with a lecture and workshop from a fellow graduate.

Alex Thompson, who is the Regional Emergency Preparedness, Resilience & Response Lead – London & South at St John Ambulance, gave an insight into emergency management, which is a high-priority discipline in the events industry given some of the incidents seen at large scale events in the last 12 months. During the workshop students identified the duties of an event organiser, developed their understanding of Safety Advisory Groups and the purpose of emergency plans.

Second year student Fran Northcott said: "It was really interesting to consider evacuation protocols for events and also highly relevant to our year group as our first live events are taking place next month."

First year student AJ Nip added: "I was really impressed with Alex's session; his knowledge and experience were right up there, and to think that he only graduated in 2014!"

Alex has agreed to provide more learning and training for the Creative Events Management course in the future.
