About this event
The Cornwall Architectural Trust and Falmouth University are proud to present: 'Themes and Threads' presented by Alun Jones, Director, Dow Jones Architects
Alun was born in Wales and studied architecture at the Universities of Bath and Cambridge. He has taught at a number of schools of architecture in the UK and Ireland and is external examiner at the TU Dublin. He has lectured about the work of the practice in Europe and in China. He is a Civic Trust Award assessor and in 2018 he judged the architecture Gold Medal at the National Eisteddfod.
Alun founded Dow Jones Architects in 2000, and their wide-ranging body of work has won numerous awards and been published internationally. They have developed a reputation for making carefully crafted contemporary architecture often in complex heritage settings. Their work has a strong interest in the relationship between materials, place and culture. Recent projects include the Garden Museum in London and the Maggie’s Centre in Cardiff. They are currently working with the Leach Pottery in St Ives, a Passivhaus in Falmouth and have recently completed a house in Newlyn, where they are based.
Following the lecture, we are very happy to be offering a chance to view the Falmouth University Architecture Students' end of year exhibition, along with a drinks reception. The exhibition will be in the Architecture Studios and, weather permitting, drinks will be served in the sub-tropical gardens outside the studio.
