BA(Hons) Photography graduate, Molly Budd, has won the 2018 South West Graduate Photography Prize (SWGPP).

Established by creative media company Fotonow, SWGPP celebrates the photographic talent emerging from the South West, showcasing their work to a national audience, with nominees' images recently on show at the Old Truman Brewery in London.

Molly won for her abstract series, The Chair is Touching the Wall, which studies and explores the body's relationship to space, as well as Molly's perception of her own spatial reaction. She spent the majority of her time at university studying the body and the isolated figure, and describes her series as: "an emotive response regarding the structural barrier of physical and metamorphic spatial confines."

Molly was encouraged to use analogue photography during her course, which she says really helped her to understand the expanse of photographic experimentation. She praises Cornwall and the South West for inspiring her during her studies: "I have found Cornwall and much of the South West very artistically influential and I am very proud to have been a part of this community for three years."

Molly will undertake a residency with Fotonow during 2019.
