A new professional song writing, recording, production and commercial engagement initiative is available to prepare students for a commercially focused music career.
Senior Lecturer Rick Rogers with Island President, Darcus Beese, OBE have developed an opportunity for music students to collaborate with professional songwriters and producers.
Students have the opportunity to submit demo recordings of original songs to the company's A&R (artists and repertoire) department. The department will choose a number of songs and the composers will be paired with current professional hit songwriters to help further develop their work. They will then be invited to work with commercially successful production teams to record their songs.
The final process will be a special showcase concert under the 'Island Live' banner in May 2017 where students that have completed the process will perform.
Island Records will choose at least one winning act that will be gifted with prizes tailored to the acts needs, specifically designed to enable further professional development.
Island Records roster of acts include former Falmouth student Ben Howard alongside acts such as P.J.Harvey, Mumford and Sons, Florence and The Machine, Drake, Nikki Minaj, U2, Petite Meller, and Disclosure.
