Domestique: The True Life Ups and Downs of a Tour Pro (Ebury Press: 2013) by MA Prof Writing graduate Tom Southam

MA Professional Writing graduate Tom Southam has received great acclaim for his co-written novel Domestique: The True Life Ups and Downs of a Tour Pro (Ebury Press: 2013).

The novel tells the story of co-author and friend Charles Wigelius, British former professional road racing cyclist, and his commitment to the sport despite never winning a race.

Domestique hit a chord with lovers of the sport, and was nominated for the William Hill Sports Book of the Year 2013. “Read it,” advised the independent, “and you will have a far better idea of what’s actually going on, behind the scenes as well as on the road, as this year’s Tour unfolds”.

Tom, who is Wigelius’ former team mate, lays bare personal experience of pro cycling, writing about himself in the third person at times to unravel the story he was so involved with.

Tom continues to write for the sport as writer and Press Officer for the Rapha-Condor-JLT cycling team.

The novel was released in June this year and is available to buy online.
