UCF was pleased to welcome leading British artist Dexter Dalwood to the Tremough Campus last week as part of the Tate Talk series.
Dexter Dalwood's current exhibition at Tate St Ives features major paintings and collages made during the last twelve years, which typically, depict images and constructed interiors or landscapes that act as memorials or descriptions of historic people, places or moments. Other works are presented as ‘portraits' of famous or infamous writers, artists, and political figures such as William Burroughs, Diana Vreeland, Truman Capote and Hunter S Thompson.
Accompanying this exhibition is a display of works from the Tate Collection that have been selected by Dexter Dalwood. He has used the year 1971 as the point of departure to explore cultural activity in the western world, and works by Pablo Picasso, Roger Hilton and Dan Graham are included.
At the Tate Talk at Tremough, writer and art critic, Michael Bracewell joined Dexter Dalwood in a conversation that explored how many radically distinct generations of artists and art historical practices co-existed in 1971 - a year of personal relevance to the artist.
Dexter Dalwood and the Tate Collection runs until 3 May 2010. For further information, visit www.tate.org.uk/stives/exhibitions

University College Falmouth is the only independent Higher Education institution in Cornwall with the powers to award degrees in its own name. It has two campuses in Cornwall - at Woodlane in Falmouth and Tremough in Penryn (which it owns, and jointly manages with the University of Exeter) - and a third campus at Totnes in Devon, following its merger with Dartington College of Arts in 2008.
This merger created a new institution focusing on the expansion of Falmouth's expertise in Art, Design and Media and Dartington's expertise in Choreography, Music, Theatre, Art and Writing. The Devon-based courses will relocate to a new, high-specification Performance Centre at Tremough in 2010, paving the way for a new specialist Arts University in Cornwall by 2012/2013 that will be unique to the South West.
The College is a founding partner in the Combined Universities in Cornwall (CUC), a unique initiative to promote regional economic regeneration through Higher Education, funded mainly by the European Union (Objective One and Convergence), the South West Regional Development Agency, and the Higher Education Funding Council for England, with support from Cornwall Council.
