Dawn French Installed as Falmouth’s First Chancellor

Dawn French has been formally installed as our first Chancellor in a day of celebrations (Thursday 26 March). In her first speech as Chancellor, the actor, writer and performer said she would be "a warrior" for the students and for the University.

The day began in the morning sunshine with local school children gathered on Falmouth Moor ready for the town's Paint the Town Yellow procession. Redruth School Samba Band lead the way with children from ten local schools handing out bunches of daffodils to the crowds.

Scottish Nature Photography Win for Eleanor

Eleanor Ryder has been named the Student Scottish Nature Photographer of the Year 2014.

Eleanor, who is studying BA(Hons) Marine and Natural History Photography, won the award with her Wild Skye portfolio of three images on the theme of Natural Drama.

Eleanor said: "I am totally delighted to have won this extremely prestigious award. As a student of marine and natural history photography, my inspiration comes from nature, from being in wild places and observing the impact of weather and light upon the landscape."

Molly Wins Inaugural Design Competition

Molly Foy has won the Designworks Tiles inaugural #designourwindow competition at Clerkenwell Design Festival.

Following a brief to create a design showing what London means to you, BA(Hons) Interior Design student Molly led her team of five fellow students to victory with, Keeping London Classy, a concept depicting a troop of debauched dogs running riot in London, with the naughtiest bits ingeniously censored using tiles.

Journalism Student Scoops National Magazine Award

Jack Kenyon has been judged the most promising student journalist of the year by the British magazine industry.

Jack, who is currently completing his final year on the BA(Hons) Journalism degree, took the top prize for undergraduates in the Professional Publishers Association (PPA) New Talent Awards 2015.

Kate’s Artwork on Marc Almond’s Latest Album

Artist and alumni Kate Walters has worked in close collaboration with musician Marc Almond to produce the artwork for his latest album - The Velvet Trail.

Kate said: "Last year I was invited by Alice Herrick, a curator in London, to propose an idea for a fete she was organising. An idea literally dropped into my head - I can draw your dream. Alice liked it and in July I went to London to - A Fete worse than Death.
