Independent fashion publication, Atlas Magazine, run by BA(Hons) Fashion Photography graduate Olivia Bossert, is a magazine geared at the promotion of the next generation of fashion creatives. Within three days of the launch of the campaign, she has already raised 77% of her £4,000 goal.
Established two years ago by two young online friends, Olivia and Megan Breukelman, Atlas Magazine was born out of a mutual desire to learn more about the magazine industry and to simply have fun being creative. Having never met, the two embarked on a mission to create a platform where young, up and coming creatives of the fashion industry could showcase their work.
Kickstarter.com is a crowd-funding platform for independent projects and Atlas Magazine's fundraising window will span 30 days. If the total of £4,000 is not raised by 20 November, all pledges will be cancelled and the project will receive no funding. In exchange for pledging money, Atlas is offering rewards, ranging from digital and print copies of the magazine, to a professional fashion shoot complete with hair and make-up artists.
In the two years since Atlas was launched, the team has produced nine online issues, which collectively have been viewed over a million times. Their Atlas Tumblr blog is now followed by over 12,000 people, while Atlas also has huge followings on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
Reflecting on this success, Olivia said: "When the numbers of online readers began to increase, it hit me that there was potential in the project we had created. I flew to New York to finally meet Megan, and we discussed where we wanted to go next. I finished university in June this year, and decided to dedicate myself full time to taking Atlas to print and e-reader devices by December."
If the magazine is successfully funded, Atlas Magazine will be available from December 2014 in both in print and digital versions.
Olivia, co-founder of Atlas Magazine, comments: "Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that the Kickstarter campaign would raise so much money so fast. It's a dream come true to see that people are genuinely interested in the magazine, and want to help take talented young creative's to the forefront of the industry. I can't wait to see what the next 27 days brings!"
