Course Coordinator & Senior Lecturer: Music, Theatre & Entertainment Management

Simon has been making, selling, collecting, managing and writing about music for 30 years. During this time he has recorded radio sessions for Radio One and Six Music, toured Europe and America, released over 20 albums, written for magazines, produced music videos, worked as a freelance in A&R and set up an independent record label. A vinyl enthusiast, Simon has spoken at conferences in Canada, America and Europe about the nostalgic draw and material culture of record collecting in an increasingly digital age.Having studied cultural and critical theory at Falmouth and undertaken his PhD in record collecting at Brunel University, Simon's research is currently focused on the relationship between the underground and the mainstream, and the importance of fan cultures and practices to the successful production and management of popular musics. Research projects include the study of crowd safety and behaviour at European festivals, the results of which were delivered to festival organisers and security companies at Roskilde festival, Denmark in 2010.Simon joins Falmouth from Buckinghamshire New University where he has been a senior lecturer and course leader of the Music Management BA and MA programmes since 2007. During this time he has been involved with the International Association for the Study of Popular Music, serving for four years on the executive committee. Upcoming publications include a book on audio cultures and a chapter on the origins of heavy metal.
