Joe studied BA Painting at Chelsea College of Art & Design, graduating in 2002. After a period spent as co-director of Century Gallery, a non-profit, artist run project space in ACAVA Studios, London, Joe completed his MFA in Fine Art Media at the Slade School of Fine Art, UCL in 2010. A burgeoning interest in the field of drawing research led to completion of his practice-led PhD at Loughborough University in 2015, the same year he began his career as a university lecturer with a visiting contract post in Fine Art CHS (Critical & Historical Studies) at the Royal College of Art, continued at present.

Joe joins Falmouth University in 2016 as Lecturer in BA Drawing. With a passion for developing and discussing all forms of drawing within a studio environment, Joe’s current research centres on investigating serially developed drawing as a form of communication. This includes clarifying the pedagogical role that variational theory can play within the context of observational drawing, and exploring the link between art, science and philosophy that arises as a result.
