  • ELUSIVE Photography show 11 - 02 - 2011

    Conversations with myself by Karen BrettAn exhibition curated by Sian Bonnell, Associate Professor of Photography, and entitled Elusive has opened at Camberwell Space, Camberwell College of Art, London. Elusive brings together the work of 29 artists including Falmouth staff, Steve Tynan and Karen Brett as well as alumnus Spencer Murphy.

  • Taking Time: Craft and the Slow Revolution 12 - 02 - 2011

     A selection of final year Contemporary Craft students at UCF have been invited to show small-scale works of craft alongside 19 international artists exhibiting at the Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery. The students submitted work for a project entitled ‘In the Moment', that had to be no larger than an A5 sheet of paper. They also prepared an artist's statement where, to link in with the themes behind the ‘Taking Time' exhibition, they reflected on the process and the time undertaken to create their work.

  • The Drifter: David Pringle 25 - 02 - 2011

     David Pringle is a Fine Art Graduate of UCF, now studying at the Royal College of Art. He won the Midas Award in 2009.  In his latest exhibition at the Millennium Gallery in St Ives, David utilises, and in turn makes comment on, the prevalent use of the 'machine' and the 'lens' as a mechanism for exposing us to the connection between the physical and the visual.  His sculptural film making apparatus create a reproduction of reality or occurrence utilising reference to techniques of cinematic film making.

     Students on the MA Illustration: Authorial Practice course at University College Falmouth (UCF) will be ‘Hung, Drawn and Authored' at The Poly, Falmouth later this month. The exhibition is a showcase for the postgraduate students, many of whom have worked in the industry, and is in preparation for their final MA show in September.

     The anti-thesis of the ‘career' artist, Bob and Roberta Smith, is a single artist whose participatory and often humorous, activist projects are motivated by a belief in art as a force for change, through the creative potential of each individual.

  • Digital Economy: research in practice 23 - 03 - 2011

    5:30pm - 7:00pm

     Dr Justin Marshall will talk about ‘Bespoke' - a multidisciplinary project investigating how digital systems and devices can increase social inclusion and improve lives. The project is working at a neighbourhood level, helping people to tell their own stories through hyper local news production, and then using these stories to inspire radically simple bespoke design solutions, created with and for people.

  • Inside Out Exhibition 29 - 03 - 2011

     Inside Out is a compelling international touring exhibition featuring forty-three miniature sculptures produced in resin using digital 3D printing technologies. Developments in virtual computer visualisation and integrated digital technologies are giving contemporary makers new insight and opportunities to create objects and forms which were previously impossible to produce or difficult to envisage.

  • MA Art Lecture - Spring Series: Solveig Ovstebo 31 - 03 - 2011

    5:30pm - 6:30pm

    Solveig Øvstebø has been Director of Bergen Kunsthall since 2003, developing it into one of the main contemporary art institutions in Norway. Against the background of a proposal from Bergen City Council to establish an international biennial for contemporary art in Bergen, she was head organiser of the three-day international Bergen Biennial Conference, held in September 2009, which asked the question ‘To Biennial or not to Biennial'.
