(Big Girls Do Big Things) by Eleanor Bauer
Performance Centre, Tremough Campus, Penryn

To celebrate the launch of the Performance Centre - Platform, UCF's new year-round programme of public performances - brings you Internationally acclaimed US choreographer and dancer, Eleanor Bauer who naviagest the folds, surfaces and transformative possibilities of a too-large bear suit, performing a series of metamorphoses that challenge and exploit her diverse capacities as a performer.

Co-promoted with Dartington as part of the Dartington Plus partnership.

(BIG GIRLS DO BIG THINGS) is an empty promise, a pre-emptive lament, a flirtation with expectations, a wrestling match with potential. Whispering what should be shouted and singing what should be whispered;  a solo on scale, volume, extreme limits and the grey areas between them; on grandeur and vulnerability, hubris and humility, visibility and subtlety; on the fragile braggadocio of living large when less is more but more is also unmistakably more.

With the inherent melancholy of things on the verge of extinction - an endangered species, a disappearing dance - Eleanor Bauer invites the audience on a safari expedition into the depths of the surface-oriented world of the performer. Self-expression drops the self and expression takes over.

Eleanor Bauer was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1983. She studied at Idyllwild Arts Academy and New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, where she received her BFA in 2003.

She completed the Research Cycle at PARTS in 2006. Her solos ELEANOR! (2005), Dig My Aura (2007), and a group piece At Large (2008) have toured internationally to critical acclaim.

She established Good Move, vzw in 2008 to support new independent dance projects based in Brussels. In addition to her own work prior to Rosas, Bauer performs with choreographers Mette Ingvartsen (Why we love action) and David Zambrano (Soul Project).

She was part of the innovative research project "6M1L" (Six Months One Location, July-December 2008 at CCNM) in Montpellier with Xavier Le Roy, Ezster Salamon, Bojana Cvejic, Juan Dominguez, Mette Ingvartsen, Jefta Van Dinther, Gerald Kurdian, Chrysa Parkinson and the students of ex.e.r.ce.'08.

Bauer is a virtual, proxy, and founding core member of the performance collective Heart/Heat/Hear [the] Bland/Band/Bend (2005 to present).

Bauer's writing on dance has appeared in publications such as the Movement Research Performance Journal (NewYork), Maska (Lubjana), Sarma's B-Chronicles (Brussels), The Making Of The Making Of, and PARTS: Documenting 10 years of contemporary dance education.http://www.goodmove.be/
