A Celebration of Cornish Music, Art and Poetry on St. Piran's Day - Cornwall's National Day

In 1497, the Cornish invaders only made it as far as Blackheath before being defeated by Henry VII's forces... But in 2010 the Cornish will make it all the way to the ICA on the Mall (in sight of Buckingham Palace!) for Kernow In The City - London's very first St. Piran's Day gig!

Louis Eliot & the Embers

Headliners Louis Eliot & The Embers celebrate the release of their new album ‘Kittow's Moor' by bringing their joyous rural sound and rip-roaring songs to the big smoke. Louis Eliot is the former frontman of Rialto who scored three top 40 singles in the late 90s. His new album was written and recorded in his homeland of Cornwall and evokes the wildness and beauty of this magical land. www.myspace.com/louiseliot

Special guest Jackie Oates will be performing a set of Cornish songs for the event plus songs from her multi-award-nominated album Hyperboreans. Formerly a member of Rachel Unthank & The Winterset, Jackie Oates was awarded Best Newcomer at this year's BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and receives airplay from BBC Radio 2, BBC 6Music and XFM. www.jackieoates.co.uk

Opening the night are hotly-tipped indie-rock trio, Auction For The Promise Club, from Perranporth on the north Cornwall coast. With a sound that channels shoegazing through big melodies, giant hooks and huge choruses, Auction For The Promise Club have played some of Cornwall's biggest surf festivals and are now receiving airplay from XFM. www.myspace.com/auctionforthepromiseclub

Through the evening there will be rousing renditions of sea-shanties by Port Isaac's The Fisherman's Friends - a crew of fishermen and their friends renowned for their harbourside singing. www.fishermansfriendsportisaac.co.uk

There will be screenings of work by the acclaimed Cornish designer and illustrator Alex Turvey, www.alexturvey.com. Alex is a director, designer and illustrator with an eclectic oeuvre of projects ranging from music videos to illustrated charity cereal boxes. Alex graduated from UCF's BA(Hons) Graphic Design course in 2005 and has recently gained recognition as one of 15 creatives who will define the future of the arts in Britain by the Independent; in Dazed & Confused magazine as one of 35 Young Creative Entrepreneurs; and in Boards magazine as one of the top six designers to watch.

Plus readings of Cornish poetry and DJs in the bar until late.
