  • Taking Time: Craft and the Slow Revolution 12 - 02 - 2011

     A selection of final year Contemporary Craft students at UCF have been invited to show small-scale works of craft alongside 19 international artists exhibiting at the Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery. The students submitted work for a project entitled ‘In the Moment', that had to be no larger than an A5 sheet of paper. They also prepared an artist's statement where, to link in with the themes behind the ‘Taking Time' exhibition, they reflected on the process and the time undertaken to create their work.

    Johannes Roberts is giving the second FilmatFalmouth lecture for 2011 on Tuesday 15 February at 6pm. The UK-based director's horror feature film F (18) opened the Film4 FrightFest before being released last year in cinemas nationwide by Optimum Releasing.

  • MA Art Lectures - Spring Series: Deborah Levy 16 - 02 - 2011

     Anxiety and Metaphor: How to break a personal story against a bigger story to create a visual narrative

    Deborah Levy will unfold the true story of a Bavarian Princess who believed she had swallowed a grand piano made from glass and who lived in a state of continuous anxiety, torn between the fear that she might accidentally break the instrument and her desire to find a safe place to play it. This presentation investigates the ways in which images replace words, magical thinking, playing and reality, objects as global positioning systems, catastrophic poetry, glass delusions, dreams and torments.

     

  • Public Lecture by internationally renowned choreographer, Lea Anderson 16 - 02 - 2011

    Acclaimed founder, artistic director and choreographer of The Cholmondeleys and The Featherstonehaughs, Lea Anderson MBE is spending the week at The Performance Centre working with BA(Hons) Choreography students. On Wednesday she will be giving a public lecture in Studio B from 6pm.

  • The Drifter: David Pringle 25 - 02 - 2011

     David Pringle is a Fine Art Graduate of UCF, now studying at the Royal College of Art. He won the Midas Award in 2009.  In his latest exhibition at the Millennium Gallery in St Ives, David utilises, and in turn makes comment on, the prevalent use of the 'machine' and the 'lens' as a mechanism for exposing us to the connection between the physical and the visual.  His sculptural film making apparatus create a reproduction of reality or occurrence utilising reference to techniques of cinematic film making.

The project was awarded funding from the Humanities in the European Research Area Joint Research Programme for Creativity and Innovation.
