The Wiyos

7:30pm to 9:30pm, 21 February 2012

Studio A, The Performance Centre, University College Falmouth, Penryn, TR10 9LX

‘'A modern band whose vintage reference points include Tin Pan Alley pop and Spike Jones...the young Brooklyn trio created a set of revelatory original songs inspired by The Wizard of Oz.'' Chicago Tribune, 2010

The Wiyos, named after a 19th century New York street gang, put a stylish contemporary spin on their self-styled mix of "vaudevillian ragtime jug-band blues and hillbilly swing", splicing it with strands of pop, rock and hip-hop. With their debut album, 2009's Broken Land Bell, having earned them a tour support slot with Bob Dylan, they'll be previewing tracks from its follow-up Twist, inspired by The Wizard of Oz.
