Jono Wardle

Award Leader, Advertising

Industry background/links

Jono Wardle

Originally from Cornwall, Jono was a graphic designer and an occasional illustrator before he tripped and fell into the world of advertising where he somehow became a Creative Director and Board Director of J Walter Thompson, London.

Working on mostly large accounts, (with clients that would frighten lesser men), Jono has created many press, poster, radio, and television campaigns including those for Boots, Persil, Kellogg, Barclays, Esso, Dulux, Habitat, and Kraft. His early career 'I could do with a D' television commercials are probably his most irritatingly memorable work, and his late career award winning 2012 Olympic Bid films are probably his most pleasantly memorable. He’s also worked at DDB (then BMP) on Toyota and Courage, Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R on The Times and Lloyds Bank, M&C Saatchi on British Airways and Fallon on BT and Sony. He’s therefore been around a bit.

Today Jono is pleased to have tripped into the world of higher education. He works with staff and students on the Advertising, Design, Photography and Media courses, managing live projects, advising graduates, supporting graduate start-ups, and working with advertising and design agencies as a creative consultant. He’s also a founding board member of the Cornwall Design Forum which represents and promotes designers working in Cornwall, a co-founder of the I’d Rather Be In Cornwall Club - a regular business networking event held in London - and works with various public sector organisations to help attract business and commercial investment to the region.

Since moving back to Cornwall he’s also written and directed a TV campaign for Cornwall Arts Marketing, publicising the bid to make Cornwall a ‘European Region of Culture’ in 2010. He hopes the resulting films will work as well for Cornwall as the 2012 Olympic bid films did for London.
