Mel Mackie
Award Leader, Television Production
As a graduate from Bournemouth University, Mel started in the television industry as a runner in 1997. From there, Mel's broadcast career quickly developed into research, assistant producing, directing and eventually producing. It has led her mostly through documentary productions for BBC1 and BBC2, C4 and Sky - her first love being social documentaries. In 2004 Mel was Assistant Producer on a C4 documentary series which was nominated, with only three other documentary series, for Royal Television Society (RTS) Award for Best Documentary Series. In 2006, Mel won two documentary series commissions from the BBC. Both of which she Series Produced. The Estate We're In (BBC1) won a coverted national Broadcast Award, achieved high audience ratings and was re-commissioned. From here she moved from broadcasting industry into Twofour Learning (within South West convergent media company Twofour).
Within Twofour Learning, Mel has been involved in winning a wide range of multiplatform media projects, continuing to grow her experience in digital film production, particularly skills around ideas development and writing creative briefs for tenders. Mel's experience and understanding of digital film production has provided a vital underpinning while her experience and understanding of convergent media has taken a sharp learning curve. Many of Mel's recent projects have embraced emerging media technologies and the development of new communities, social networking and social marketing, independent, unheard voices and new ways of sharing and learning.
