Photo of John Parker-ReesJohn took up his appointment as Senior Lecturer at University College Falmouth in September 2003. He teaches on the Broadcasting course and co-ordinates Erasmus European exchange activities for the Media courses. He was also involved in organising the Media contribution to University College Falmouth’s end of year show in 2005.

John worked in Film and Television for 15 years before teaching at London College of Printing (now part of London University of the Arts) and the London School of Music and Media. He lived and worked in Spain for five years where he expanded the range of his professional experience to include production of events for television including Afroamerica (Vigo 1992), Son Da Pedra (Porriňo 1993) and Son Da Terra (La Guardia 1994). He also worked as lighting director on two studio-based series for TVG, Centro Medico & Galiza Siglo XX.

He has filmed LTJ Bukem, the Prodigy and Pierre Henry at the Cartier Centre, Paris for New York’s Caipirinha Productions feature documentary Modulations.

He was a Guest Speaker at EU/Erasmus Summer Video Festival, Juodkrante, Lithuania in July 2001 and 2002 and also delivered a workshop at the Black Film Maker International Film Festival, London in September 2002.

Jonn worked as associate producer and second unit cameraman on the feature Deadwood starring Dexter Fletcher and David Soul. He has worked as Director of Photography for Commercials including Creative Labs/Audiology (Pinewood/Spain) and Omega/Bond (Gilliam’s Panico studios).

He has worked on many music videos in Spain and the UK. One clip for Los Rodriguez was recently voted into Argentina’s top ten all time best. Another clip, Fangoria’s Ella es un Volcan is in the Spanish top 100. He has shot documentaries in Cuba, The British Virgin Islands, and the West Bank. A recent documentary, shot in Belfast, was screened at Istroart, Bratislava and in New York.

He has worked on several short films including two for the BFI New Director’s scheme, one for the European First Film Foundation and a couple for other broadcast strands. His Vision5 Community information spot was broadcast on Five and screened at the 2000 British Television Advertising Craft Awards.

Perhaps his greatest pleasure was when his interview with the Cuban trombone legend, Generoso Jimenez, was taken up by Passiondiscs, a popular website for Cuban Music aficionados. Some say it played a major part in the re-release of el Trombon Majadero, Generoso’s hit album with Bene More.

He currently teaches production management and script development on the Broadcasting programme. He is also working on a documentary project exploring traditional Galician communities in North West Spain.
