Who's who

Kathy Nicholls

Lecturer

Illustration by Kathy NichollsAs a freelance illustrator working in the editorial and advertising world, Kathy Nicholls fell into animation by chance when she was asked to paint a background for an animated TV title sequence. After the relatively isolated experience of being an illustrator she enjoyed the atmosphere of teamwork in an animation studio. So began a career that spanned the 1990’s and beyond.

Kathy worked on commercials, TV series and on some much loved children’s productions of the time. These include Father Christmas, The Tales of Beatrix Potter, The Wind in The Willows and Angelina Ballerina as well as the artistically acclaimed T.R.A.N.S.I.T. She spent most of her time as a background artist, however, she often did other jobs within the studios. In 2002 she taught on the Animation degree course at Staffordshire University.

She is delighted to be involved with the new Animation course at Falmouth where she hopes the diversity of her experience will prove useful to students.
