Gary Long

Part-time Lecturer

No sooner had Gary graduated from Manchester College of Art than he was approached by an agent in London and began a successful career as a freelance illustrator.

He has produced figurative work for Saatchi & Saatchi, a Christmas poster campaign for the National Gallery, film posters for Warner Brothers, and six book jackets for internationally acclaimed children’s author, Judy Blume, amongst many other prestigious projects over the years.

He believes passionately that good drawing is at the heart of good illustration, and is an invited member of the Society of Illustrators in New York, and a member of the internationally-renowned Falmouth Six, along with Alan Male and Mark Foreman.

Three years ago, Gary started to paint. At his second solo show at the Great Atlantic Map Works, he sold 25 paintings, and was subsequently commissioned to provide the cruise-liner, Queen Mary II, with six more, which he is currently working on in his studio at Porthgwidden Beach, St Ives.
