Who's who

Dr Christine Truran

Associate Dean, Learning, Teaching & Student Experience

MA University of Oxford, PhD University of Bristol

Chris joined University College Falmouth after 11 years as a producer and director for the BBC, and 7 years as Course Leader of the BA in Television, Multimedia and Sound (Time-Based Media) at the University of the West of England, Bristol (UWE).

Starting her career with the BBC as a production trainee, Chris worked right across the corporation's output before focusing on factual programmes. It was an exciting time to develop as a producer and director, when documentary production combined the chance to communicate powerful human interest stories with a sense of being at the cutting-edge of programme-making. Broadcasting technology was changing fast, too, and Chris became increasingly interested in the opportunities that it offered to producers and audiences - in particular, the potential of interactivity.

Before taking up her current role as Associate Dean for Learning, Teaching and the Student Experience, Chris was Course Leader for the MA in Television Production and the MA in Professional Media Practice at Falmouth. She was also Lead Academic for the Skillset Media Academy.

Research interests

Chris’s doctoral thesis, Virtual Narratives: a Study of Relationships between Narrative and Interactivity, with Special Reference to Interactive Television, investigated the development of new narrative forms made possible in television by interactivity.

Her current research interests focus on exploring learning approaches that integrate more traditional, face to face pedagogies with flexible, accessible forms of learning enabled by Web 2 technologies.
