Research interests

Illustration from Rob Gawthorp's portfolio of workAesthetics, Space, Time And The Aural.
Using contemporary aesthetic theory to address multi-sensory, post-disciplinary art practice; to develop work (film, performance and installation) in relation to location and addressing the experience of what is seen and what is heard; and to continue to explore how (non-generic) noise becomes experienced as music.

Thunder and Lightning
Theoretical research and writings (intended eventual outcome to be a publication/book) addressing the above.

Remote
A series of audio-visual screenings and installations concerned with location (landscape) as source, site and separation.

Moving Air
Installations, events and performances concerned with the physicality of sound and its visual/aural/spatial perception. These works follow on from the work as Automated Noise Ensemble (below).

Automated Noise Ensemble
Ongoing collaboration with Bob Levene (since 2000); installations, performances and recordings. The actions that produce sound and the process of their perception. The work explores noise and music by adapting, re-inventing and constructing musical instruments, devices and structures. automatednoiseensemble.co.uk
