Misri Dey

Senior Lecturer in Devised Theatre

Photograph of Misri DeyMy current research interests involve investigating the kinds of solo performance that can be made when the primary source material is autobiographic and based on the researcher being multi ethnic. This work is currently taking the form of a practice based PhD, including public performances in studio theatres, (Exeter Phoenix / tEXt festival 05) museums, (British Empire and Commonwealth Museum, Bristol (05), Royal Albert Memorial Museum, community centres and a recorded radio play broadcast for BBC Radio. I use writing, physical theatre and voice in my practice.

I have also founded SOLO, a unique national forum based at Dartington which supports the work of solo performance makers in making and touring new work, and models working methods of mentoring / feedback and touring which are useful, cost effective and productive. Forthcoming tour of a three new solos including mine - 'Taj A Chino Blues' is currently being booked for previews in November and a Spring/Summer 07 tour. This has been awarded funding by the Higher Education Innovations Fund, Dartington Plus, and Dartington Arts and is awaiting a decision by the Arts Council. I am also collaborating with visual artist / writer Chris Crickmay within this project, exploring how research and performance material can be created for our two separate projects by sharing a working methodology.
