Gillian Wylde is a London-based visual artist working with video performance activities, installations and object-led work. Her practice alludes to instances appropriated from the unpopular popular, the extraordinary everyday and high vs. low art and things.
Comedy + trauma = traumedy as a rupture in aesthetics + little investigations/big ideas of the pathetic, poetics + shoddiness. Temporalities and timing vs the rubbishy within the composite live or mediated moment like maybe a rude smell or hairy logic.

Duration timing waiting boredom walking and nothing. Cinema and film video and super8 phenomenology editing as a metaphor television drawing and printmaking mark-making DIY tearing things.

Unbecoming animals/fur hair allergies dogness and pop poppy music/culture failure Mary Douglas & caves mountains un-natural histories/habitats Practical and conceptual excavations levitation and static switching things on and off things that revolve things that move up and/or down.
Language and text speaking and not speaking uncanny silences ur-languages writing and things

2006 GeekFest Poole, Dorset ‘one million years bc-ac/dc’ site work commission for one of six beach huts in http://www.geekfest.org.uk/ - A durational performance exploration project investigating ‘success, deferred success and failure’ part 1. learning to play drums on a full drum kit using- 'Introducing the complete drums home video tutor' whilst making connections to the evolutionary notions of the 'missing link' a work in progress which sets up a situation to learn/fail at new skills within a performative and durational situation. includes very real instances of intellectual fields of escape, pre-historic feelings, ur-langauges and or forms and things- on-going project into 2007
2006 Lounge Gallery London, Midlands Art Centre Birmingham. ‘the story of my object (turdus merula merula)’ Video installation- the work developed out of an uncanny encounter with a real living blackbird and considers the uneasy and unromantic attitudes towards a bucolic and ‘abjected’ sublime nature
