PRACTICE

Gillian Wylde is a London-based visual artist working with video performance activities, installations and object-led work. Her practice alludes to instances appropriated from the unpopular popular, the extraordinary everyday and high vs. low art and things.

Comedy + trauma = traumedy as a rupture in aesthetics + little investigations/big ideas of the pathetic, poetics + shoddiness. Temporalities and timing vs the rubbishy within the composite live or mediated moment like maybe a rude smell or hairy logic.

MAIN RESEARCH INTERESTS AND FOCUS

(Susan Sontag, Morrissey, and Gertrude Stein in the same room at the same time).

Duration timing waiting boredom walking and nothing. Cinema and film video and super8 phenomenology editing as a metaphor television drawing and printmaking mark-making DIY tearing things.

Girl bands electricity and vibration noise and nowotony and the moment pataphysics repetition desire love chance and dirt trashy/ beauty aesthetics exchange and encounter.
