Joe Tallboys & Toby Derham: Creative Advertising MA graduates

MA Creative Advertising - 2008 & 2009

Joe Tallboys & Toby DerhamThe Creative Advertising MA at Falmouth gives you the fundamental craft and concepting skills needed to survive in any agency.

Having both undertaken the course but in different years, we didn't come to team up until some time after finishing it. We both had a wealth of experience working in agencies by this point. We also had that same foundation of knowledge about our craft given to us by the MA at Falmouth. This meant that we were coming from the same place in terms of concepting, and in crafting work. Falmouth helped us learn about ad agency structure too, and gave us solid knowledge about the industry as a whole, past and present.

Having worked together for over a year now, we still find ourselves referring to the things we learned at Falmouth, and it's our belief that although media and technology is ever changing, a good idea never goes out of style. This means that once you understand the fundamentals that Falmouth teaches, you can apply them to whatever kind of brief you find yourself working on.

After leaving the course we both worked on the placement scene for over a year, it was extremely tough, with long hours and low wages. But if you're good enough, eventually you'll get noticed.

While working at Grey we've been working on many, many brands including Brother, Horlicks and Clover. We've recently produced an interactive 3d projection for Sensodyne that took place over the Easter holidays, and will be uploaded to the internet soon.
