BA(Hons) Choreography, 2003 - 2006
Since I graduated in 2006, I've been working on many different projects in Italy, India and the UK. I took part in Inteatro Festival Academy, a residency programme in 2007 with the project You Are My Home; lived in Bristol and took part in the movie Night In Easton with Action Time Vision (a community project based on ethnic minorities' migration to Bristol); joined Bristol Fusion Dance
group doing community work with dance and music, making shows and music videos. I also collaborated with musicians and video artists making dance projects, and went on a journey to India studying with the company Milon Mela.
In my final year I created a project called Dresshead. I'm now performing it in various venues; the next one will be Turin, Italy, as part of the Festival Inside-Off, where I have a week-long residency to develop the performance further. I've also been invited to Alexandria, Egypt, to the Creative Forum of Independent Theatre, for which I was lucky enough to receive a bursary with
Movin'Up.
After graduation I had a powerful drive and curiosity to look for the answers that my studies had opened up. I learned to combine my artistic passion with practical economic issues; the University College taught me how to manage this. The teaching helped us find our focus, our interest, learn the techniques and communicate our ideas to others. The Site Specific and Dance Management modules were also really useful for our creative practice.
The approach of the course is fantastic; giving you the space to explore your questions and showing you different possibilities for developing them further. We were able to work independently and professionally, but still encouraged to collaborate with other students and disciplines. The facilities were also really good: great space availability, technical and sound equipment, as well as a really good library. The relationship with the tutors was also very special - they're really attentive to your needs.
