Irfhan Mirza: Broadcasting BA(Hons) graduate

BA(Hons) Broadcasting*

Falmouth's facilities were a big draw for me; we had access to some of the best equipment and learning spaces in the country. The chance to study somewhere with breathing space - yet still be surrounded by art, music and culture - also really excited me.

After graduating, my first job was at the production company Eyeworks, working on Channel 4's show T4. Since then I've worked at the BBC on various shows including Strictly Come Dancing and Top Gear. I've gone from coming home covered in glitter walking the waltz to filming a supercar roaring through the Welsh mountains.

Falmouth taught me to be versatile and I think that's been one of my greatest assets. The course gives you access to lots of kit, cameras, lights, microphones, mixers and edit suites and you're encouraged to use it whenever you can, to experiment and test your ability. Once you're working you realise this is rare and gives you a head start in the workplace. The tutors encourage you to push the envelope and move your project forward by thinking ahead of the industry. That inquisitiveness is like gold dust in the workplace and the longer you can keep hold of it the better you'll do.
