Richard Acton: Graphic Design BA(Hons) graduate

The idea is key. And detail is everything. I left Falmouth with a strong interest in moving image, unsure what to expect in the commercial world. After six months as a Junior Designer with a print-based design company, I was offered a video and web animation job with Fish Design. Within a year, I was invited by a Senior Designer at the BBC to apply for a job. I worked my way up to Design Director over six years with BBC Broadcast, which was later sold to the private sector and rebranded as Red Bee Media. I am now working freelance.

A Thousand Years of History, a year-long television advertising campaign for UKTV History, is particularly memorable for me for the nightmare of working to a January deadline through the team's Christmas holidays in 2003. We began making the first promo in December and got it on air for the start of the new year!

Since graduating I have won several awards and nominations, including the BDA Rocket Award 2004 and The Interactive Marketing and Advertising Awards 2004 - Best Interactive Advertisement (Honda IMA).
