BA(Hons) Fashion Design 2007-2010

Jenny is an independent designer and founder of ethical, fair trade fashion label EntreMares, which is driven by finding sustainable solutions to some of the problems in the fashion industry. Her final collection for Falmouth in 2010 was awarded the Co-operative Bank's prize for the most ethical collection and featured designs that used fish skin leather Jenny had sourced from a small village in the Amazon.

During her time at Falmouth, Jenny was awarded the Ferdynand Zweig memorial scholarship, a travel bursary, which enabled her to undertake a project with BA(Hons) Photography student Toby Coulson investigating cotton production in India:

I wanted to find out the truth about organic cotton and its opposite, genetically modified cotton, which currently dominates the market. I interviewed organic and GM farmers and visited factories where garments are made, as well as going to a university in India that specialises in cotton crop development. Falmouth funded this project and my lecturers gave me a lot of support to realise it.

The course gives you in-depth knowledge of the fashion industry, taught by people who have experienced it first-hand. You learn about everything from wetsuit seams, setting up a website and most importantly, how to find your own handwriting as a designer. The facilities were amazing - we were truly spoilt. In the second year we were encouraged to do an internship and I was lucky enough to work with a designer in Paris.
