Laura Smith: 20th Century Art & Design MA graduate

MA 20th Century Art & Design: Histories & Theories

Laura Smith I studied Fine Art at Glasgow School of Art and while I thoroughly benefited from it, I realised there was a gap in my knowledge. I'm interested in contemporary art and curating but lacked a deeper understanding of art histories in their wider social contexts.

I still make art and will shortly exhibit in the New Works programme at the Newlyn Gallery. The 20th Century Art & Design course compliments my practice - developing my visual analysis skills and allowing me to cultivate independent research interests, in curating and ‘total installation'.

I already feel more able to focus my career aspirations, assisted by work-experience at Falmouth Art Gallery and The Liebermann Villa, Berlin. I hope to curate, to continue making art and eventually to teach one day.
