The future context

Our new Photography Centre
University College Falmouth recognises that the market place for HE is global and competitive with more providers entering every year. It is this global market that will set the benchmark standards for quality and the delivery of provision. The delivery of HE is also changing with the use of the web and online facilities to offer distance and e-learning modes to courses. In response, we plan to develop innovative approaches to learning and teaching that build on identified good practice and share expertise and experience with other providers. Such approaches will take advantage of changing technologies as a means of widening access to HE opportunities and enhancing the student experience. UCF plans to work in partnership with other providers to develop its provision in this area.

The increase in student tuition fees in England and Wales from 2006 increased the direct cost of HE to students and their supporters. This increase in cost has inevitably resulted in higher student expectations and a focus on value for money and return on investment. What seems certain is that HE institutions are going to have to work harder to attract students, particularly those from outside their immediate geographical area, and retain them once they have enrolled. The concept of student as consumer/paying customer is now firmly established. In response to rising student expectations the University College will continue to invest in its academic provision, enhance the quality of its learning and teaching, and develop its facilities and support infrastructure.

With our merger with Dartington College of Arts in 2008, and their relocation to Falmouth in 2010, our aspiration is to achieve University of the Arts status. We are therefore well-placed to make an even greater impact on the cultural and social life of the south west.
