Foundation Show launches summer season of exhibitions
During this time, shy characters have gained confidence, noisy youngsters have learnt to stop and think, monosyllabic boys have turned into garrulous young men, sixth-form girls have become women who weld, some small students have grown several inches, many have radically restyled, nearly all have learned to draw better by observation, one or two have given up drawing in favour of making things, there has been as much weight loss as weight gain, and they have all been exchanging ideas with each other throughout the course.
One hundred and fourteen of them went to Berlin for five days and came back looking thoughtful. Many have successfully applied to degree courses, some around the UK, but nearly half to University College Falmouth undergraduate courses. All have written a final major project designed to demonstrate to us what they have learnt, and all are showing their work at either Wellington Terrace or The Poly, Church Street, Falmouth from Friday 23 May to Thursday 29 May.
Gabriella May from Penryn won the National Young Photographer of the Year award at this year's Clothes Show Live in London. Robert Fillary, another graduating student is doing a ‘Self Image' project with disabled learners at Doubletrees School in Par, and Billy Norways from St Ives recently won the Men's Individual surfing title in the British National Student Surfing Championships at Newquay. The other one hundred and forty one who are exhibiting this year represent some of the best visual arts talent in the UK today.
The Foundation Studies in Art & Design Show launches the College's summer season of exhibitions - from ceramics and textiles to creative writing and television, this year's Summer Shows feature the work of graduating students from the College's renowned courses in art, design and media and take place at both of its campuses - Woodlane in Falmouth and Tremough in Penryn - from Tuesday 17 June to Saturday 21 June 2005. The Shows will be open to the public - at Woodlane and Tremough - from 10am to 6pm on Tuesday 17, Wednesday 18 and Thursday 19 June; from 10am to 4.30pm on Friday 20 June; and from 11am to 5pm on Saturday 21 June.

In April 2008, University College Falmouth merged with Dartington College of Arts to create a new institution focusing on the expansion of Falmouth's expertise in Art, Design and Media and Dartington's expertise in Choreography, Music, Theatre, Art and Writing.
The merger will pave the way for a new specialist Arts University in Cornwall in 2012, creating a Higher Education institution unique to the South West.
