Student orientation FAQs

What is orientation?

Orientation is a three-day programme designed to help you adjust to life at University College Falmouth and in the UK.

Who organises orientation?

The International Office is responsible for orientation every year. We have a team of dedicated and enthusiastic student helpers who voluntarily assist in the running of the programme, many of whom have attended orientation themselves.

When is orientation?

Orientation is always held before the start of the new academic year. Students not attending orientation usually arrive at UCF the weekend after the end of the programme.

Can I arrive at the University College before the start of orientation?

This will depend on your accommodation arrangements. If you will be living on campus, you may stay on campus during the contracted time period. If you will be living in private accommodation, you can arrive when you wish and may want to discuss this with your new landlord or landlady.

Who can attend orientation?

We run orientation for all new international students. There is a mixture of events to suit the needs of both undergraduates and postgraduates.

Do I have to attend orientation?

We strongly recommend that you attend orientation if you are an international student. It is especially valuable for students who are new to the UK. We receive positive feedback from students every year who have found it very useful and enjoyable.

How much does it cost?

Orientation is free.

How do I apply for a place on orientation?

We will contact you between June and July with further details and an orientation application form.

How can I travel to the University College for orientation?

We operate a meeting service. Please contact the Internation Office for more details.

How do I book a place on the meeting service?

You can book a place on the coach meeting service by filling in an application form, which we will send you between June and July.

What shall I do if I don't know my flight details yet?

If you have not confirmed your flight at the time of booking your place on orientation and the meeting service, please don't delay in submitting your booking forms but email us with the flight details as soon as you can.

Can I bring anyone to orientation?

We think that you will benefit most from orientation if you come by yourself as the programme is designed to help you prepare for your studies and get used to living in the UK. It is also a great opportunity to meet new friends. We cannot provide accommodation for family members or friends.

Can you accommodate students with disabilities?

Yes. Please indicate on the application form if you require extra support, or email us for further information.

Can you cater for special dietary requirements?

Throughout the week we cater for vegetarians. Please email international@falmouth.ac.uk for more details.
