Tell me more about the BA(Hons) Theatre: Performance course

In today's theatre the performer has progressed from being an interpreter of a text to taking creative responsibility, alongside others, for the generating, shaping and production of performances. At Falmouth you'll develop all the tools you need to flourish in the constantly evolving world of contemporary theatre.

Through practical workshops and theoretical study you'll learn a wide range of skills, which will help you to become a creative and well-grounded performer. You'll learn how to work collaboratively and explore in depth the different modes, forms and styles of performance, as well as understanding the relationship between the performer and the audience and how these many factors help inform both the process and the performance. You'll study composition and how to edit and re-shape your work, as well as examining how place and time can also affect a performance and contribute to the decisions you make.

Workshops, residencies and lectures with professional performers, companies and directors - from London's famous Donmar Warehouse to the highly acclaimed Kneehigh Theatre, for example - will play a major part in your learning, giving you access to working professionals and the opportunity to learn from their experience and knowledge. You'll also attend a range of professional performances to further enrich your learning. The course will focus on developing your professionalism in all areas and introduce you to a range of activities designed to improve your writing skills, including essay writing, critical documentation and the formulation of project proposals.

Working closely with other students from Theatre: Writing and Theatre: Directing will mean you're constantly engaged in the collaborative process, which is integral to all the BA(Hons) Theatre courses. Workshop sessions will allow you to receive and offer critical and creative feedback as you engage with the studio-based processes of generating material and composing performances, helping you to develop your skills as a thinking performer. Looking closely at a range of existing models, methods and historical approaches will also play a part in your development, as will the study of models of researching and documenting your practice, helping you to develop the necessary balance between theory and practice.
