Fiona Walters - BA(Hons) Spatial Design 2009Spatial design is a matter of problem-solving, breathing life into old spaces and creating dynamic new places. At Falmouth, you'll be encouraged to develop your own style and philosophy, exploring the way people live, work and interact to deliver sustainable, socially responsible and innovative design. This means your designs for inspiring indoor spaces, public places and gardens will reflect your personal approach while also meeting the demands of modern life.

Learning through a hands-on approach, you'll produce models and designs using a range of hand-drawn media and computer graphics. You'll be taught by industry-experienced staff, experiment with the wealth of materials available within our Design Centre and have access to specialist design technology. You'll also work on real spaces with experienced architects, planners and designers for a variety of live projects with national organisations such as the Eden Project, English Heritage and The Sorrell Foundation, as well as for private companies and community initiatives.

Spatial Design students, along with Falmouth's 3D Design and Garden Design students, recently staged an exhibition in Falmouth to showcase work engaging with topical issues from the spaces and places within Cornwall's towns and landscape. Our students have also produced a variety of inventive ideas for redesigning the interior and exterior of the Royal Cornwall Museum.

"Falmouth's Spatial Design is a young course with both imaginative and relevant structure and content. It capitalises on the recognised success of Art and Design in Falmouth, and on the tremendous sense of place offered by Cornwall." Graeme Sutherland, Adams & Sutherland (architecture, landscape, and urban design)
